More about the Weather

Weather is what is happening in the atmosphere today, tomorrow or next week. Climate is the study of weather over time.

Weather forecasts are useful as they help us plan for the days ahead. They help us decide what type of clothes to wear, they help industries such as ski resorts know when they will be able to open, they help farmers know when to cut their crops.

Taking measurements in the atmosphere on pressure, wind speed, precipitation (rain or snow fall), cloud coverage and cloud type amongst other factors gives us the information to help us make weather forecasts. This data is also useful if you look at it over a longer time to show us if there are changes in the climate.
