Glasgow Science Centre has won the Best In House award at the Scottish Events Awards for their Taste of Science Gala Dinner and Chef of the Future competition. Judy Rae, Corporate Events Manager, collected the award with her team at the ceremony on Thursday evening (6 September). ‘The Taste of Science Gala Dinner’ headlined the ‘Events By GSC’ series which was part of the Centre’s 10 year anniversary celebrations. The series were designed to showcase the five star service at Glasgow Science Centre and to engage with corporates, academia and consumers.
Hosted by celebrity chef John Torode, an audience of both corporate and consumer guests were treated to a presentation exploring the fun of food experimentation from the MasterChef presenter before dining on a gastronomic 4 course menu. The specially created menu included blood orange and salt flake cured salmon, roast rump of Scottish lamb with an anchovy and rosemary sauce and a rich chocolate ganache with delicate lavender and vodka jelly.
Judy Rae, Corporate Events Manager said:
“We are delighted to win this award and it is particularly gratifying for my team’s hard work to be recognised by our peers. The Events By GSC series offered a unique networking platform for the Scottish business and education communities set against a backdrop of great entertainment and fine cuisine. Big names trust us to deliver high profile and multi-facted events from Gordon Ramsay to Jaguar so it is very satisfying to be acknowledged for our own in house event.”
As part of the event, Glasgow Science Centre ran a Chef of the Future competition for children aged 8 – 12 who had to create a delicious and imaginative two course meal. Three finalists competed in a cook off within the GSC kitchens at the Taste of Science Gala dinner. The panel of judges selected 9 year old Elizabeth Swan’s chicken and tarragon and mustard followed by lemon and elderflower syllabub as the winner.
Due to the success and popularity of the events, Glasgow Science Centre is reprising the series. ‘A Question of Science’ with Professor Robert Winston takes place on October 11th and ‘A Taste of Science Gala Dinner’ will return in March 2013 hosted by James Martin.
