IMAX at Glasgow Science Centre
The IMAX Theatre at Glasgow Science Centre is an independent cinema operated by the science centre showing stunning and unique IMAX 3D mini-blockbusters, plus immersive full-length feature films that'll have you on the edge of your seat.
We enforce film age limits and reserve the right to refuse entry as per our customer code of conduct. It is our policy that under 16s may not visit the IMAX at Glasgow Science Centre unless accompanied by an adult who is over the age of 18.
Blockbusters

Plus, magical family experiences are coming to the IMAX this Christmas with the return of The Polar Express 3D - grab our early bird festive film for a fiver! The Polar Express 3D
Enjoy a big festive day out this December with a visit to Scotland's biggest cinema screen to see The Polar Express in 3D. Snag your early bird tickets for just £5 each, available until 30th November. The usual price of standalone tickets for our festive film is £5.95 / £7.95.
Wicked
After two decades as one of the most beloved and enduring musicals on the stage, Wicked makes its long-awaited journey to the big screen from 22 November. Tickets are on sale now!
Mini-Blockbusters
We show a variety of short, immersive IMAX 3D and 2D documentary films. IMAX tickets for these mini-blockbusters can be bought as an add-on and pre-booked online as part of a day visit to Glasgow Science Centre and cost £3.50 per person.

Animal Kingdom 3D

How big is the IMAX screen at Glasgow Science Centre?
The IMAX screen at Glasgow Science Centre measures 80 feet (24 m) wide by 60 feet (18 m) tall. It is the biggest cinema screen in Scotland and 3rd largest by screen size in the UK (source: Wikipedia).

Is food and drink available to purchase in IMAX Theatre at Glasgow Science Centre?
Yes, food and drink is available to purchase. A Coffee Shop operates on the ground floor in the IMAX Theatre at Glasgow Science Centre selling a selection of hot and cold drinks, cakes and pastries, sandwiches, toasties and treats. Breakfast rolls are available from 9.30 am.
On the 1st floor of the building, there is a concession stand with a selection of hot and cold drinks and snacks.
Opening Times: The Coffee Shop opens from 9.30 am on days that Glasgow Science Centre is open. It normally operates until the admission of the final film of the day.

What does “Filmed For IMAX” mean?
IMAX has certified high-end, best-in-class digital cameras with leading brands including ARRI, Panavision, RED Digital Cinema and Sony to work in the IMAX format when paired with its proprietary post-production process. Top Gun: Maverick was filmed with Sony Venice cameras. Top Gun: Maverick, along with other films such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are among the current films certified as “Filmed for IMAX.”
“When content is ‘Filmed for IMAX’ the result is pure magic because it brings filmmakers’ visions to audiences exactly as they intended, all within the world’s most immersive theatrical experience,” said Megan Colligan, President of IMAX Entertainment. Combined with the “Filmed for IMAX” program and post-production process, the use of the cameras is optimized for IMAX screens to ensure the creative intent of the filmmakers is exactly what IMAX audiences can experience for both picture and sound quality.
When did the IMAX Theatre at Glasgow Science Centre reopen?
The IMAX Theatre at Glasgow Science Centre reopened as an independent cinema operated by the science centre on 5 May 2022. The first feature film to be screened was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, followed by Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World: Dominion, Lightyear and Thor: Love and Thunder! It's also shown E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jaws, Moonage Daydream and Avatar.
