Science Safari

Join the British Pharmacological Society at Glasgow Science Centre from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, 2 July for an exciting Science Safari!

Embark on an expedition through the world of science and medicine at the Science Safari! 

Our hands-on activities are perfect for curious minds of all ages to explore the amazing science of medicine and the human body. Learn about how painkillers stop you hurting, the secret superpower of cabbage, and more!

Whether you're a budding scientist or simply curious about the world around you, there's something for everyone.

All visitors will receive a free colouring book and crayons (whilst stocks last), and have an opportunity to enter our online drawing competition, and be in with a chance of winning a giant fluffy microbe of Penicillin!

Penny Drops Challenge

Take on the ultimate test of precision and scientific wonder...how many drops of water can you pipette onto a penny? Learn how water molecules interact with each other to create an invisible connective force - surface tension. Are you up to the challenge?

 

Biofilms Beyond the Eye

Step beyond the eye's surface and explore the hidden realm of bacterial biofilms. Unleash your creativity as you shape your own biofilms, as you use a microscope to see first-hand the intricate structures made by the bacteria which we unknowingly interact with every day.

 

Listen to your Blood Flow

Unveil the symphony of your circulatory system! Use handheld Dopplers to listen to the sound of your blood flowing and hear how it changes during exercise.

 

Medicine Makers

Become a medicine maker as you craft painkillers using pipe cleaners and beads and learn how their shape helps them to work in our bodies. Suitable for all ages.

 

Journey into the World of Pharmacology

Enter the world of the Science Explorer as you put on a lab coat and get to try your hand at using classic laboratory equipment!

 

Cancer medicines: From the Laboratory to the Patient

Immerse yourself in a world of interactive games and activities designed to deepen your understanding of the medicines we use to treat cancer. Solve our receptor-enzyme puzzle to unlock the secrets of targeted therapies and see how DNA mutations can snowball with our giant jenga. Unleash your creativity as you draw cancer and immune cells, exploring their complex relationship.

 

Under the Surface of our Skin

Uncover the secrets of human skin and discover the wonders of our largest organ by creating your very own 3D model and captivating collage! Learn about the vital functions of healthy skin and what happens when things go wrong.
