How Did We Get Here? - Wonderbag

In this series, we celebrate the actions people around the world are taking to tackle climate change, and explore the injustices created by the world’s changing climate.

What is it?

The Wonderbag is a non-electric slow cooker. By placing heated up food within the thermal bag for up to 12 hours you greatly reduce energy used to cook as well as time spent cooking.

How did we get here?

Wonderbag’s focus is on the women and girls and how they are disproportionately affected by climate change. With an estimated 3 billion people around the world still relying on open fires to cook, the majority of these women’s time is spent fetching firewood and tending potentially harmful cooking fires. By using this device, Wonderbag studies show that women gain 1300 hours a year that can be spent in education and with their families.

Wonderbag also supports jobs for women through factory sewing and manufacturing Wonderbags, as well as enabling women to start their own businesses by transporting and selling hot food. Not only does Wonderbag help reduce carbon pollution and smoke inhalation but it’s also empowering women around the world.
